After a few goodbye's with Tina, John, Loki and Nanna G we finally hit the road at around 12.15. We made a short stop at Stawell to pick up some things from Lindy's, We grabbed some pies for lunch from Chris n Di's bakery and back on the road. Hopetoun was our next stop for a toilet break and a change of drivers, Ange had her first go at towing a caravan and handled it with aplomb. We changed back just past Ouyen and I drove thru to Mildura. Fuel stop here then back on the road towards Renmark. It was now getting dark as we came through Lake Cullulleraine so we decided to find somewhere to stop for the night. A truck parking / wayside stop was found about 5 k's past Lake Cullulleraine and it was decided that this would do.
We had a quick tea before setling in early to watch Kung Fu Panda and off to sleep. The night was restless due to trucks driving past as well as stopping and I think because it was our first night on the road.
Day 2 started off early with us packing up and heading into Renmark.
We found the shopping centre and while we shopped for groceries the boys made their way to the Skate park which was across the road, Macca's was our next destination for a late breakfast then down to the river to set up camp.
Our camp was at the end of 23rd street at a place called Plush's Bend. We found a perfect clearing right beside the river where the boys could fish, kick the footy and we could relax.
The boys did some fishing with no luck, in fact they snagged the lures and Mtch went for a swim to get them back....... did he holler when he stepped into the water, he reckons it is the coldest water he has ever felt and he has swam at the beach in warnambool in the middle of winter and not complained so it must have been freezing.
When the camp was set up to our liking we decided to go for a walk and find a geocache. It was about 2klms away and after I led them on a couple of wrong turns we found where it was supposed to be.During the recent floods it had washed out and opened up, we gathered what we could of it and replaced it in its hiding spot. On the way back we passed a couple of fishermen who had landed a couple of Carp, this had the boys excited about fishing again. The rest of the arvo was spent relaxing with a few beers, kicking the footy and fishing.
When night fell we had some tea and settled in for Kung Fu Panda II.... About Kung Fu'd out now. The boys then hit the Swags for their first night outdoors on this trip.
I am happy to be posting the first comment on this blog of oyurs. Hope to get plenty of updates and to see lots of pics on here too. Have a great trip.
